About Us

Welcome to the Australian Telangana State Association.

The Australian Telangana State Association (ATSA), formerly known as the Australian Telangana Forum, was established in 2006 with a strong vision to promote Telangana culture and heritage in Australia. Initially working in partnership with the US-based Telangana Development Forum, our early mission also included advocating for the long-awaited statehood for Telangana in India.

Founded by a passionate group of service-minded individuals, ATSA has always stood for cultural pride, community service, and social unity. In 2006, our founding members celebrated the Bathukamma Festival alongside Telangana Liberation Day, and took a significant step by submitting a petition to the President, Prime Minister, and both houses of the Indian Parliament—calling for the recognition of the people’s 60-year-long aspiration for a separate Telangana state. Our members actively participated in political and non-political efforts, including working closely with the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), until the dream of statehood was finally realised.

We are proud to have been a part of that historic journey.

Promoting Culture & Building Community

Since our inception, promoting Telangana’s rich culture in Sydney and across multicultural Australia has been at the heart of our activities. From the first Bathukamma celebrations in 2006, we received overwhelming support from the local community, encouraging us to expand our cultural outreach to other Australian states and even New Zealand.

Our events have become a platform for celebrating Telangana festivals, music, dance, and traditions, while also building bridges between diverse communities.

Social Responsibility

ATSA is actively involved in social and community service initiatives. Our members regularly participate in Clean Up Australia Day, blood donation drives, and health and wealth awareness seminars, contributing to the wellbeing of the broader community.

We also provide support to new immigrants and students, helping them settle into Australian life and encouraging their involvement in community activities. Our aim is to offer a welcoming space where everyone feels included and connected.

Recognising Talent & Contributions

Over the years, ATSA has proudly hosted and honoured many artists, writers, poets, and contributors to the Telugu and Telangana communities. We organise “Meet & Greet” events for visiting dignitaries and community leaders from India, providing opportunities for meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, ATSA extended crucial support to overseas students, earning deep appreciation from the wider community for our timely and compassionate assistance.

Our Growth

ATSA’s growth over the past 19 years is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, member families, and supporters. With a steadily increasing number of annual and life members, we continue to uphold the values of service, culture, and community.

Today, our executive committee is proud to represent Telangana culture in Australia’s vibrant multicultural landscape. We remain committed to advancing ATSA’s objectives and making a positive impact in the lives of people we serve.
